Full pre-op assessment — West China Hospital

Specialist consultation with Dr. Liu Wei
In-depth consultation reviewing your MRI and pre-op results. Dr. Liu will walk you through the surgical approach, answer all your questions, and confirm the procedure plan.

Knee replacement surgery + 48h post-op care
Total knee arthroplasty performed by Dr. Liu Wei using cemented prosthesis (international-grade implant). 48-hour post-op observation in private room.

Physiotherapy & supervised recovery
4 sessions of in-hospital physiotherapy, plus daily gentle exercises. Pain levels monitored daily. Dietary support included.

Things people ask us
What if I need to cancel or change dates?+
No problem — we can reschedule at no charge up to 14 days before departure. The setup fee is refundable if you cancel more than 21 days out. Within 21 days, we retain 50% to cover coordination costs already incurred.
How do I pay for the medical costs in China?+
You don't pay anything directly in China. We pre-fund all costs and send you a full reconciliation after your return. If we over-estimated, we refund the difference to your NZD account within 5 business days.
Is it safe to have surgery in China?+
West China Hospital is accredited to the highest national standard (Grade-A Tertiary / 三甲) and uses the same international implant brands as NZ and Australian hospitals. Dr. Liu trained at Charité Berlin.
Do I need a visa?+
No. New Zealand passport holders can enter China visa-free for up to 30 days. Your 14-day trip is well within that window. We'll guide you through the entry declaration process.
What if something goes wrong medically?+
West China Hospital has a full emergency department and ICU on-site. Your coordinator is reachable 24/7. We strongly recommend travel medical insurance before you go — we can refer you to a suitable policy.
